Papageno is a pocket-sized tabletop game that I was challenged to reimagine as a comprehensive game experience. Through interviews, observations, taxonomy, analysis, and synthesis, I was able to explore the gaps and opportunities of the current experience and implement an instructional digital experience and identity system. I reimagined the branded identity of the game to bridge the disconnect between the story and the theme. Bringing the essence of The Magic Flute into the visual language made the connection more readily accessible. After playing Papageno with many different personality types, I discovered the rules were a challenge because of the way people learned and took in the information. I wanted to address this challenge and facilitate a faster learning process. By redesigning the instruction booklet and including a QR code that links to a digital experience, I was able to tailor the instructions to different learning styles. In the design process, I learned to value play and story as a meaningful way to connect disparate elements through visual shape language.
