Given the color orange, the word modern, and a starter logo, I was tasked with creating a landing page for a Travel Service. I expanded the concept of “modern” to be a desire to see more, experience more, and feel more. In my notes I wrote, “modern is opening our eyes, opening our minds, modern is hungry for more. To be modern is to be alive in the fullest sense of the word.” I discovered the word Meraki in my research and word mapping. “This is a word that modern Greeks often use to describe doing something with soul, creativity, or love -- when you put “something of yourself” into what you’re doing, whatever it may be.” (npr.org). With the idea of creating a travel photo workshop called The Meraki Collective, I began collecting visual research to communicate an essence of authenticity, community, connection, warmth, and energy. India Earl’s photos have always captured a magical intimacy and I curated a collection of six images to bring warmth to the website. With the second round of design, I changed the header image to help the flow of the site. Rounding the corners and creating a button that more intentionally added to the movement of the site helped communicate the essence more clearly.
