This designed web experience highlighted the grit and resilience in the individual stories of six black Americans. Each story captured my heart and Jessy Leroy Brown’s story brought me to tears. I feel it is significant to be aware of the fact that stories are not just words on paper or on a screen. Stories are how we remember life. To tell stories is to be awake and present. It is a significant thing to remember and cherish those who lived beautiful lives and did not let adversity stop their efforts. The lives of these individuals span the space between 1866 and 2022, as both the first African American man and woman launched into space are alive today. After walking through a timeline of each individual, viewers are prompted to continue exploring. My goal was that their lives would be remembered and that viewers would feel a stirring to become more informed, digging deeper into their stories that are both heartbreaking and overwhelmingly triumphal. Let us celebrate and value those who are undervalued and opposed. Let us love one another.
